Project Purple Announces Sydney Marathon Team For 2025
We’re following over $1.7 Million raised by our run teams in 2024… by adding another massive race in 2025
Project Purple has recently become an official charity partner of the Sydney Marathon. The addition of this official partnership with the Sydney Marathon means that Project Purple is now partnered with six of the world’s biggest marathons for 2025. This news comes after its run teams raised an outstanding $1.7 million in support of pancreatic cancer research, early detection initiatives, and patient aid during the 2024 season.
What to Look Forward to during the Sydney Marathon?
The Sydney Marathon features amazing views spanning the 42.195km, or 26.2 mile, course. Runners will start in North Sydney and make their way down to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, past Darling Harbour, and through the heart of Sydney.
As the race continues, runners will pass monuments like Barangaroo Park, The Museum of Contemporary Arts, Allianz Stadium, Sydney Cricket Ground, St. Mary’s Cathedral, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and the Royal Botanical Gardens.
Runners will then finish the Marathon at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt.

The TCS New York City Marathon
Considered one of the largest races in the world, The TCS New York City Marathon had over 51,000 finishers in 2024, according to Marathon Handbook. Of those on the Project Purple team, Tiffany Aukema and Brendan Pomeroy shared just how momentous it was to run this epic race.
Tiffany Aukema ran in honor of her father, Court Jones, who has pancreatic cancer. Court, who began experiencing pancreatic cancer symptoms and was diagnosed in 2023, began his career in New York City and has always had a passion for running. Tiffany inherited her dad’s love for running and felt that joining the Project Purple Marathon Team for this race was the perfect way to give back.
Brendan Pomeroy ran in honor of his stepmother, Rhoda, who passed away from pancreatic cancer. Brendan has been a runner for several years, and felt that running for the Project Purple Marathon Team was the ideal opportunity to run a marathon. Brendan said he felt that his stepmother was with him at the race, which took place the day before her birthday.
Every year our runners and their support teams bring the energy during the race with a vibrant crowd and rowdy cheering in our large cheer zone where friends, family, and supporters cheer, ring cowbells, wave flags, and listen to music while cheering on Project Purple runners! The TCS London Marathon
The London Marathon is one of the hardest marathons to get into, according to Marathon Handbook. There were almost 54,000 finishers in 2024, and over 840,000 applications for the 2025 race. But Project Purple has exclusive slots! These are some of the remarkable stories from the runners on the Project Purple Marathon Team.
Jeremy Miller, a running influencer from Austin Texas, teamed up with Project Purple to bring awareness to the charity while participating in the sport that he loves. Jeremy said that running the race for Project Purple made the race even more meaningful.
Sheng Huang partnered with Project Purple as he ran the London Marathon in 2024 to raise money and awareness for the cause in honor of his coworker Sherril Dale as she continues her pancreatic cancer journey.
Bruce Blumberg ran the 2024 London Marathon in honor of his friend Tony Rodrigez. Tony dedicated the last years of his life to fighting for immigrants in the US and was such an inspiration to so many, including Bruce. Running the marathon allowed Bruce to support a cause close to his heart while continuing to spread Tony’s legacy.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon
Known for its flat terrain, runners who are looking to set a PR choose the Chicago Marathon. In 2024, there were over 52,000 finishers, with one elite professional setting the world record for their finishing time, according to Marathon Handbook.
Jaclyn Darst, a member of the Project Purple Marathon Team, continued to run the Chicago Marathon in honor of her father, David Darst, and to keep his memory alive. Her dad would show up to all her races wearing his “PaPa” shirt, a bright neon yellow t-shirt that she could easily spot him in. This became his signature outfit when he got sick, so his family had matching custom shirts made that said “David’s Defenders,” and they would wear them when taking him to his treatments.

The Bank of America Boston Marathon
Since its establishment in the 1800s, The Boston Marathon is one of the largest and most popular marathons. The Project Purple Marathon Team had several runners participating with noteworthy journeys.
Bill Nugent has become the first person to run in all 6 world marathons with Project Purple. Bill initially began running to get healthier, but ran the Boston Marathon in honor of his mother who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2014. According to Bill, running with Project Purple gives all of the miles a reason.
As an avid runner, Jaclyn Kawka had always wanted to run a marathon in support of a charity close to her heart. In 2022, Jaclyn’s mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away 9 days after her diagnosis. Jaclyn ran in the 2024 Boston Marathon to honor her mom.

The BMW Berlin Marathon
The Berlin Marathon is a beautiful scenic race, runners run past historic landmarks in the heart of Germany. 2024 was a record year for the Berlin Marathon, as they set a new world record for most finishers with over 54,000, according to Marathon Handbook.
We were able to visit Berlin and shoot some really cool videos for Instagram Reels! We covered the Berlin Marathon Expo as well as the Generali 5k leading up to the race. Then, of course we put together a montage for race day!
